What to see in Irun

Irún is the second biggest city in Guipúzcoa, and marks the border with France. Strolling around its streets you can’t help but notice the many works of art, such as the Church of Santa María del Juncal, built in the 17th century, or of course the Santa Elena Chapel. The façade of the Hospital de Sancho de Urdanibia and the Palace of Urdanibia are also well worth stopping for. In this charming city you can also enjoy nature, for instance by climbing the Peña de Aia granite massif, where you will get to see the Bidasoa river mouth.

What to see in Bilbao

This well-rounded city offers the most avant-garde architecture designed by top architects, such as the Guggenheim by Frank Gehry, the Zubizuri (white bridge) by Santiago Calatrava, and the metro station entrances by Norman Foster, in addition to the more traditional and stately buildings of the City Hall and the Fine Arts Museum. Make sure to try the tasty Basque cuisine, most widely known for its pintxos that you will find in the many restaurants dotted around Bilbao’s old quarter and the winding streets that surround the Cathedral.
